Agent News

On Monday November 27th I signed the last page of a contract and faxed it in. It was the signature page to a contract for representation by Sharon Pelletier of Dystel, Goderich and Bourret. I am SO excited.

On the 13th, I sent out four queries. I received two requests for fulls. Sharon emailed that Thursday to set up a call for the following day. I sent out two more queries that afternoon, receiving one request for a full and one rejection (the agent already represented something too similar to my writing). Then, on Friday, I spoke with Sharon. She was amazing, had good thoughts regarding my manuscript, and felt like someone I would want to work on. While I was on the phone with her, another agent called, told me she would read my manuscript over the weekend and be in touch with me the following week.

On Monday Sharon offered representation. I told the other two agents who had fulls. One admitted she had difficulty with the way I’d written the story (single POV) and wished me luck. The other offered representation as well.

I spent the rest of Thanksgiving week debating between the two–both are excellent agents who know the business and either would have been a good choice–but I felt more comfortable with Sharon. So when Monday came around, I sent in my signature. She returned her own on Tuesday.

I’m so grateful for this opportunity. I’m grateful it’s happening now instead of two years ago when I first started querying. I’m so much more prepared and in a much better place to become a published author. Here’s to timing and agents and holidays!!
